Ragin Eliminates Iowa

Johnny Ragin

Wilsonville (Ore.) outside linebacker Johnny Ragin has eliminated Iowa and will make a decision this week between BYU and California…

Wilsonville (Ore.) outside linebacker Johnny Ragin III committed to BYU back in December, before opening things up slightly to consider California and Iowa. This weekend, the soft verbal was in Provo taking a closer look at the Cougars.

"It was a good trip, I got to meet a lot of the other commits," said Ragin. "We looked at the locker room and equipment room; I hadn't seen them on my unofficial."

The highlight for Ragin was spending time with some current players.

"I got to spend some time with Ross Apo and Kyle Van Noy," said Ragin. "They were answering some of my questions. Kyle plays the same spot I'll be playing there."

Ragin was joined by a couple familiar faces on his official visit. High school teammate Tanner Shipley, as well as fellow Oregonians Brayden Kearsley and Dallin Leavitt are all committed to BYU.

"They are keeping everything low key, not pushing too hard," said Ragin. "It'd be a plus to play together, but I will make the decision that is best for me. It was fun to go down with people I know."

Ragin took his official visit to Cal last weekend and was planning on visit Iowa next week, before making a change.

"No, I am not visiting Iowa now," said Ragin. "I have coaches from Cal coming in tomorrow, coach Sacks, Buh and Dykes. Then on Tuesday BYU is coming in, coach Poppinga and Atuaia. Then I will finalize everything on Wednesday and make a decision."
